Rich and Tangy Homemade Marinara



Hello friends! Deceptively simple post today - rich and tangy homemade marinara.



So easy to make, only six ingredients! Easy too, doesn't even take that long to simmer.



Tomato-y, olive oil-y, basil-y, garlic-y goodness.



So many uses! Pasta dishes, dipping for bread, LASAGNA (more on a very giant, very cheesy lasagna coming soon...)



Try it! I promise. You'll never want Ragu again.

This recipe comes from Chef Dennis over at More Than a Mount Full, one of my favorite food blogs out there! It comes from his professional kitchen, if that tells you anything about it.

Rich and Tangy Homemade Marinara

4 cloves fresh garlic chopped
2 28-32 oz cans crushed tomatoes (San Marizano, if you can obtain it)
1 bunch fresh basil
1 small onion finely diced
1/2 cup olive oil
salt and pepper to taste

In a large skillet or small sauce pot, sauté diced onion and chopped garlic in olive oil until onions are translucent, do not allow them to burn!

Add crushed tomatoes, rinse cans with just a little water and add to the sauce (if crushed tomatoes are not available use whole tomatoes and crush by hand or in a blender).

Chop basil and add to the sauce, add salt and pepper to taste (don't over season you can always add more later).

After your sauce has reached a boil, reduce the heat to low, and simmer for 15-20 minutes for classical Marinara or simmer for 3 hours for a rich hearty tomato sauce.
